When Gerald Boot first became President of Landscape Ontario he asked a
simple but powerful question, “How can we take Landscape Ontario to the next
level?”
Many of you responded.
One of your priorities is that you want Landscape Ontario to be a conduit for
business improvement information and activities. As a result we are focusing
our extensive infrastructure on developing the business improvement
opportunities you want. You will notice a renewed emphasis on business
competency in the conference program at Congress, Chapters, Commodity
Groups, Symposiums, magazine articles, trade shows and certification programs.
Recently with our North American partners we launched the new Certified
Landscape Professional Program. This evaluation procedure defines what it
means to be a “professional”. It is aimed at the owner manager level. Our goal
is to encourage all of our members to become Certified Landscape Professionals
within the next 5 years. We will also be providing many courses to help prepare
the membership for writing the test. If you are interested in the program please

We are also sponsoring a number of industry consultants who will be writing
regular articles in the magazines, speaking at various events and who will be
available on a fee-for-service basis to help you enhance you business skills.
J. Paul Lamarche is a long serving industry consultant who has helped many
members become more successful. Our Contractors group overwhelmingly
chose Paul’s financial management process as one of the most appropriate for
our membership. Paul will be speaking at LO events and writing articles.

Bob McCannell has extensive marketing and management experience to share.
He recently announced the opening of a consulting business. Landscape
Ontario is pleased to support Bob in his effort to help our Garden Centre

Ken Ethridge is another consultant specifically in the area of marketing and
branding. He has also developed the concept of “business improvement clubs”

Rob Kennaley is a lawyer who specializes in contracts and contractor law. As a
former Landscape Contractor he understands our business. Rob has authored
the Landscape Ontario snow removal and contractor standard form contracts.
He is a regular speaker at Landscape Ontario events. He also provides articles
for our magazine. Last year he was recognized at our awards program for his
